AMBALA - PINJORE - PARWANOO - KASAULI

Have you ever travelled uphill with people in a car who have motion sickness? On Monday, the 27th of June 2011, I decided to brave the long tortuous drive (at least for me) along with my cousin, a person who threw up even at the mention of mountains to drive in a second car. We tricked her into driving in short spells, from Ambala to Pinjore, then decided to see the gardens on our return trip and asked her to accompany us to Parwanoo for the Timber trail rope way. There we told her it was beyond our pockets to shell out so much money for a trip up the rope way. So, we convinced her if she drove slowly, we can try going to a small hill station on the same road, called Kasauli. Amazingly she agreed.

Kasauli is a small hill station established by the British as a military cantonment in 1842. It is at a height of 5960 feet. Kasauli is a quiet place, birth place of  Mr. Ruskin Bond (more about him later). In 1904, Pasteur Institute of Inda was established now called the Central Research Institute working in immunological research. The Christ Church is another attraction. As all hill stations have, it has a sunset point, a monkey point and a breathtaking view. The weather was cool and the clouds would caress us as the wind blew them towards us.

While coming down the hill, the drive was smoother and we stopped at the Pinjore Gardens. Built by the foster brother of Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor, the garden is a scenic place to have a stop over.

  1. I was mostly surprised because i was expecting something very local, very unrefined but i was wrong. I am surprised also because i have a preconceived ideas about India and mostly what has shown in television are extremely different. I admit i have a wrong notion.

It is clear to me that i have knew nothing about the place though i have been in India years back...The place has something more to offer, being to be discovered. Thank you for a friend...

  4. Lovely pictures. Keep sharing post like this. Stroll along the stretch of water and water fountains, heavily lined with cypress and palm trees and flowerbeds, and you can actually experience firsthand what it must have felt like to be a king or a queen proudly approaching your palace. Check out more about Pinjore Garden, Entry fees, timings etc.
