Hundreds of years ago, or was it last night, as he lay on his bed, he felt the dark room aglow, a fresh fragrant breeze sweep across the room through unbroken windows and a voice call his name... He slowly blinked his eyelids, hoping the pain the vision was causing would go away but he wasn't so lucky. She hadn't been coming to meet him for a long time and he had been very thankful. Now he could forget her as her memories had forgotten him, or was it the other way around; he had not remembered her for a long time. Tonight, she was here, his past, her life.
As he gazed towards what was a few moments back the ceiling, he could see her sparkling eyes looking down and the fan just about able to hide her smile. This must be madness, he thought. He was past the age when he would believe in visions and dreams. A distant car horn brought him back and he saw the fan and the empty ceiling.
Some voices never leave you, few songs, couple of images and a face. Some day he had hoped to be clear of this illness which brought back old images in front of his windscreen while driving on the highway. When you are young, life is lived in the extremes... everything clinging to the ends of the spectrum. Words like always, never, black, white, true, false, yes, no mean everything or nothing. Now, either maturity, wisdom or compromise allows you to accept the grays in life, sometimes... His way of life had been the reason and the result of his stubbornness.
People leave you or stay with you. Some who understand you too well, leave you... not because they don't like what they see, but as Jack Nicholson says, they can't handle the truth. Some who can't understand you, leave you too. And you do the same to the people who come into your lives. In this sifting of the grains of sand, sometimes we are left with pebbles, and sometimes with diamonds. He had kept memories of all the diamonds close to his heart... some near him, and some lost forever. Once in a while he would open his treasure chest and count them, his eyes gleaming with the radiance of his jewels... like he was doing tonight.

- To be continued -
Words are full of emotion. There is truth - people either may stay or leave you..... but it doesn't mean they do the same. ..... for me - it remain always in my heart; it will not fade; i will not leave; i will only stay behind....waiting
ReplyDeleteA lovely story and partly factual.
THERE IS NO MORE LOVE ONLY FEELINGS OF DOUBTS
ReplyDeleteI TURN THE PAGE AND U WALK AWAY
NOT EVEN LOVE COULD BRING U TO STAY
YOUR WORDS ERASED MY HOPE
AND YOU WIPE THE SMILE FROM MY FACE
I SUPPOSE IT IS MY TURN NOW……….
I think if you can’t get someone out of your head maybe they are supposed to be there, this post reminds me of some quotes by Flavia Weedn
ReplyDelete"Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same."
"Some people come into our lives
and quickly go... Some stay for awhile
and embrace our silent dreams."
"They help us become aware
of the delicate winds of hope...
and we discover within every human spirit
there are wings yearning to fly."
"Some people awaken us
to new and deeper realizations...
for we gain insight
from the passing whisper of their wisdom."
"Throughout our lives we are sent
precious souls...
meant to share our journey
however brief or lasting their stay
they remind us why we are here.
To learn... to teach... to nurture... to love."
"Some people come into our
lives to teach us about love...
The love that rests within ourselves."
"Some people come into our lives
and they move our souls to sing
and make our spirits dance."
"They help us to see that everything on earth
is part of the incredibility of life...
and that it is always there
for us to take of its joy."
"If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.”
some memories are worth holding to, hopefully she was stearing into her treasure too.....I can relate to this, muy bueno :)
After reading this story, all I can say is that; "Love Never Dies," is so true.
ReplyDeleteIn some relationships, people have to remind eachother ,that they love you or keep giving the proof. But,someone like in this story,is a example of "unconditional love."
I feel, its impossible to forget the people you truely loved(or still love)...once.They are always somewhere in the corner of the heart, with same emotional attachement they had before.
Sometimes, when I remember the past memories,I feel like, did that person really understood my feelings,so deep and pure.
I love the Title ofyour Story,"Treasure Chest," and the concept of collecting diamonds.
