How do you leave a mark on a place to say that you were there. Many other questions arise in my mind. Even if I leave a mark, will somebody know where the mark is? Will somebody be able to understand it? Will there be someone who will search for it, if it is not seen?
Some years back I had gone to Agra. Strolling through the corridors of the palaces, I came across a wall, where with a stone someone had written, " ____ was here". I wondered what kind of a person would like to scratch something like that on the wall of a palace, he neither owned, built, rented or had a chance to do so ever in his life. He was not the only one. Many scribblings confessing love were also on the walls. I was in Agra, the city of Taj. The symbol of love stands on the bank of the river across the fort. Whenever I think about it, I am reminded of the following nazm: -

Taaj tere liye ik mazhar -e- ulfat hi sahi
Tujhko is vaadi -e- rangeen se aqeedat hi sahi
Meri mehboob kahin aur mila kar mujhse...
(The Taj, mayhap, to you may seem, a mark of love supreme
You may hold this beauteous vale in great esteem;
Yet, my love, meet me hence at some other place!)
Sahir Ludhiyanvi translated by K. C. Kanda
Maybe, in different ways, the person who scribbled on the wall about his love, and the king who constructed a monument on the earth are trying to profess their loves. I detest both. For some strange reason, I can't understand the concept of leaving also. Do you ever really leave something, or somewhere, or someone? You leave a part and cleave to the memories of the same. Is it not enough that when you move away from the sight of people, you still exist in their hearts? Is it not enough that their lives and your life bears the imprints of the hours and days you spent with them? That in some way, each moment in the life of a person, influences him, moulds his thinking and carves his character, makes him who he is, not just for himself but for others to see and feel too. Do we really need to etch our names in stone, when they are already written in the hearts of the people who matter?
i love ur innocent thoughts in a post.I think it depends on how much that person or place with whom we are attached are close to our heart.sometime it happens that when we meet some people , for just bunch of minutes we will remember that moments ,whole life...becoz may be there was something(?some +ve energy ),which touched our heart.On the other hand even if, we have spent years living with some people or place ,we wont remember or even notice them,beocz they never been close to us.we can only leave the mark in someone heart or write our name,if we were successful enough to touch people's heart no matter how much time we have spent.so I think you are right ,when we leave something or someone who had touched our heart,we lose nothing.Their fingerprint will always stay on heart,nomatter how far they are....
ReplyDeletenice thoughts.....it doesn't matter how much time you've spent but how it touches our lives....and you can leave a marked to someone even by a tick of a clock that will carved in their minds and hearts no matter how distant you are to them...
ReplyDeletealways be a blessing to everyone...
