He wanted some time alone, so the trip to the pink city happened just at the right moment. He spent the train journey talking about Jonathan Livingstone Seagull and some nonsense with somebody and later sleeping near the door of the railway cabin. When he reached the tourist bus, he sat looking out at the hawkers selling fakes and smiled thinking how it reminded him of most of the people around him - fakes. He did not expect anyone to sit next to him after the way he had fallen out of the group of friends he had. She came and sat next to him. No hello, no smile, no acknowledgment. He pretended to check his camera and stole a glance. Oh God, not her please he thought. The last time he had talked to her, he had ended with his foot in his mouth.

He knew the best thing to do would he to endure the twenty minutes ride to the next halting place and then hopefully she would take some other seat. It never happened. They spent the next few days seeing the city together, walking along silently,  smiling at each other. One evening she asked  what he remembered about their first meeting. He was amazed. He had met a person who could remember exactly what he had said to her long back and could quote him verbatim with the exact date and time. The trip came to an end and he wondered if the dream had ended too.

The answer came the next day. He had gone to a party which bored him so much he came out for a smoke and fresh air. Can you really have both at the same time? She walked out of the room and found him standing outside talking to himself. He was trying to decide whether to go home or go for a drink. It was destiny I guess. She walked up to him and said hello. He replied the same. She smiled and started to walk and he followed. From the assembly hall towards the chapel and out to the college.

There was something strange happening. Both walked together without talking to each other, same pace. She walked into the library and took a book and sat down to read and then he realised how stupid he looked standing there not knowing what to do next. He hastily took out a book from the shelf, sat opposite her and pretended to read. The reading lasted one hour. She got up and walked back to her home. He followed her to the gate, said bye and went home. The days became monotonous and he fell in love with the routine. Days became months and the library reading continued. He was happy. Then one day, just  three words - 'I have fever' and it all changed for ever...

-to be contd...

  2. a wonderful start of a moving tale or story....it illustrates the mystery of love beyond practical experience.

rarely we recognize that miracles occur us when we are in the midst of being extraordinary.... im looking forward to what the writer's heart decides...when he said..."i have fever and it all changed forever....."
